Truth told, Albus had not paid much attention to the Council of Tabula Rasa. He had been so preoccupied with the nature and workings of such a dreadful place on a magical and physical plane that its politics seemed unimportant. That was, of course, until he had perused the list of nominees for the next general election.

Albus Dumbledore. Seconded.

He stared at the writing, eyes narrowing slightly as he considered its significance.

Well, he thought, that was a most interesting development.

Barty was grinning with his hands in his pockets as he approached the other man.

"I didn't do it," he said.

Albus turned, slightly surprised by Bartemius's voice, but he schooled his expression almost immediately. Raising an eyebrow, and a faint, bemused sort of smile playing about his mouth, he replied, "The thought never crossed my mind." He returned his attention to the list.

"However, that does beg the question of who did?"

"I'd put money on a future student," Barty said. "Oh, I hope it was Neville."

Albus laughed, a short, sharp sound.

"And perhaps Miss Granger seconded it?" he suggested, tapping his chin lightly. The bruise had since faded to a light green colour although it was virtually hidden by auburn stubble. "I somehow doubt that the others I have met here would be inclined to nominate someone such as myself."

"Why?" Barty asked, "did you tell them your philosophy on Wizard-Muggle relations?"

The whole situation was just gleeful.

"Of course not," said Albus, eyes flicking towards Bartemius, practically gleaming with mischief. "I believe sharing that particular philosophy would be unwise." He smiled, one corner of his mouth twitching upwards. "I am running, of course."

"Oh, and I'm voting for you," Barty said brightly, "of course."

"Three votes," observed Albus wryly, folding his hands behind his back. "I'm well on my way to victory."
